A CHOICE…
Laird Magnus Sutherland loves women. His prowess in the bedchamber has earned him the name Devil of Dunrobin, but no woman has ever stirred his heart. Magnus needs to provide his clan with an heir, which is the only reason he agrees to marry the neighboring chieftain’s sister. When his betrothed arrives, he discovers the chieftain has two sisters. If Magnus must bind himself to one woman, he intends to discover which is best suited to be his wife, for he wants more than a body to plant his seed. He wants a mate for life.

A CHALLENGE…
There are three reasons Lady Effie Reay refuses to vie for Laird Sutherland’s affections…

For one, she is thirty-two and would surely lose a competition to her beautiful, younger sister. Secondly, Laird Sutherland is a well-reputed rake, and she holds no desire to wed another faithless man. And thirdly, the sight of him makes her tingle, shiver and ache.

Will Effie be successful in thwarting Magnus’ advances, or will her body succumb to a temptation that can only lead to heartbreak?

A S-excerpt:

They were perfect for one another, Effie decided as Laird Sutherland entered the Great Hall. Four of his kinsmen trailed him, all braw and thickly built, but none possessed the chieftain’s dominating presence. Hair, black as a raven’s eye, lay disheveled about his shoulders with a braid falling from each temple to mark his status. A sea-green and pale blue plaide, perfectly pleated, draped over a clean léine shirt, but what impressed her most was the arsenal he wore on his person—a basketsword hung from his hip, two daggers sheathed at his waist and the black handle of a sgian dubh poked out the top of deerskin boots.
He was a good match for Effie’s younger half sister, as well as Clan Mackay. Their union would make their clans a fearsome beast to behold. Clan Sutherland was known for their prowess in battle. They were powerful enough to protect themselves as well as Effie’s clan. The truth of the matter was, Clan Mackay needed Clan Sutherland more than Clan Sutherland needed the Mackays. And her brother knew it, which is one of the reasons Ian had traded their sister for an alliance after Da died.
The other reason was simple—Ian was as eager as Effie to see Vanna wed. Effie had taken over Vanna’s tutelage after Da ousted Vanna’s mam from the clan four years past. At nineteen, Vanna knew her letters and could manage a household, but Effie feared her sister might be a wee bit loose with her legs. Given Laird Sutherland’s lascivious reputation, Effie suspected he might find such a quality agreeable, so long as the girl took care not to spread her legs for his kinsmen.
’Twas a mistake Vanna’s mam had made.
Effie shook the thought out of her mind. Vanna was not to blame for Besse’s transgressions.
“Think ye the chieftain will like me?” Vanna swished long black hair over her shoulder and fiddled with the brooch pinning the heavy wool of her arisaid.
“The man agreed to the union in writing six months past. It matters naught if he likes ye.” The worry stitching Vanna’s thin black brows together made Effie wince. She would do well to remember Vanna was the daughter Da had coddled throughout her adolescence, unlike Effie who’d had two bairns in the nursery by nineteen. “I suspect ye will have Laird Sutherland feeding ye roasted almonds before dawn.” Effie gave her sister’s cold fingers a reassuring squeeze then stepped into her brother’s shadow where she belonged.
“Laird Mackay, welcome to Dunrobin.” The chieftains embraced in a fierce hug, smacking one another heartily on the back. “Ye must forgive my tardiness, but in my defense, ye are more than two months early. I didn’t expect ye and your retinue until the first thaw.” Laird Sutherland glanced down a line of Mackay warriors, all huddled in furs with melted snow beading their beards. He made a gesture toward one of his housecarls. Moments later, the fire burning in the hearth roared to life.
“A wee bit o’ snow cannot contain the young and impatient.” Ian’s cracked lips split into a wide smile beneath his thick copper-colored beard.
A wee bit o’ snow? Effie contained a snort. They’d traveled four days through a bleating blizzard, risking their horses’ health, as well as their own, because of Vanna’s impatience. Effie feared her toes would never thaw inside her worn leather brogues.
While the chieftains introduced their kinsmen, Effie peeked around her brother’s shoulder to study Laird Sutherland more closely. The man was as braw as they came. Black stubble shadowed his jaw but didn’t hide the strong angles of his chin and cheekbones. Silver-blue eyes the color of shallow seawater glittered beneath thick black brows. His nose, slender and straight, directed her gaze to sharply-defined lips.
Simply put, the man was…well, he was certainly easy to look upon.
Effie decided her sister had been blessed with good fortune, until Laird Sutherland turned toward his seneschal. A scar trailed a sinister red line from in front of his ear, down his thick neck and into his léine shirt.
Vanna sucked in air, her spine straightened.
Effie wanted to scold her. The girl slept peacefully night after night beneath the blanket of protection the Mackay warriors provided. War was essential to the security of their borders. No one knew this better than Effie. She had her own scars, though none marred her skin.
“Wake the servants and warm ale for our guests,” Laird Sutherland issued the order to no one in particular for his attention was now on Vanna. He added instructions to prepare their accommodations, then set himself before his betrothed.
“If this is your sister, then ye did her no justice in your missives.” Laird Sutherland eyed Vanna from tit to toe and awaited introductions.
Ian angled himself toward Vanna. “May I present Lady Vanna Mackay.”
Vanna’s smile could weaken any man’s resolve, and she knew it. She glossed her full lips, batted her curled black lashes and dipped low as Effie had taught her. “’Tis a pleasure to finally meet ye, m’laird.”
His bow was deep, reverent, but his eyes darkened with lust. ’Twas how men looked at Vanna. She possessed uncommon, exotic beauty, unlike Effie, who resembled every other green-eyed lass in the Highlands with unruly copper-colored curls and pale skin. The one physical attribute Effie had to her favor was her firm round breasts. Not that anyone ever noticed them.
Laird Sutherland noticed. His gaze flitted over Effie’s person then lingered long seconds on her breasts.
Her heart skidded, but she quickly pulled the seams of her mantle tighter around her bosom and tucked herself farther behind Ian.
“And who, pray tell, is this bonnie creature?”
Ian had to follow Laird Sutherland’s eyes before he replied, “This is Euphema Reay—”
“Effie, m’laird,” she corrected quickly and stepped forward beside Vanna to curtsey. As she stood upright, she glared at Ian. At four years her junior, Ian had the bitter disposition of a man twice his age. “I am my brother’s other sister.”
Laird Sutherland’s brows perked up, his head tilted, then his eyes shifted back to Ian. “I was not aware ye had two sisters.”
Ian scratched his beard. “I saw no point in mentioning it during our negotiations.”
Laird Sutherland’s gaze swept over her like a gust of heat before he met her eyes. “Are ye married, lass?”
“I’m widowed, m’laird.” She hated those words. Had hated them for two years.
“And past her years.” Ian’s callousness spiked her temper.
“I just turned two and thirty. I’m hardly dead.”
“Do ye still bleed?” Silence hummed in the wake of Laird Sutherland’s inquiry. The fire cracked in the hearth, raising the short hairs at her nape.
She considered herself keen, but it wasn’t until he asked his blatant question that she fully understood the path of the conversation. She held no desire to take another husband, much less take a husband from her sister. Staring wide-eyed at the rushes scattered about the floor, she felt almost ashamed when she answered, “Aye.”
Effie swore she heard Vanna’s teeth grind as Ian attempted to remedy the situation. “Forgive me, but ye agreed to marry Vanna in exchange for an alliance.”
“We’ll have our alliance.” He locked eyes with Ian. “But I’ll remind ye that I agreed to a union with your sister.” Laird Sutherland’s attention shifted between Vanna and Effie. “I’ll need a fortnight to decide which one is best suited to be my wife.”

CAN YOU SAY EXCERPT??

With wet hair, a travel mug of coffee and a KIND bar in hand I throw my bag into the trunk of the cab and pile into the back with my guitar and direct the cabbie to head to the parking lot near the rehearsal spaces of Kit’s record label. When I pull into the lot, the buses are lined up and people are wandering around the lot like zombies looking for brains.
My blood pressure spikes as my feet hit the pavement and the familiar jolt of excitement builds up in my chest until I fully expect it to shoot out my fingertips. I love writing and performing, going on the road for several months and the prospect of playing in huge, sold-out arenas is giving me a boner that’s making jeans tight. And on this tour in addition to the lead guitarist spot I get to be an opening acts in many of the cities.
I can almost feel the pen in my hand as I sign the recording contract.
“Mac, are you ready my man?” I roll up beside the drummer, Mac Giles, and we fist bump both grinning ear-to-ear. Mac is a road junkie like me, loves the crowds and playing to a full house. We’ll be riding together on the band bus along with the bassist, Aaron Rice, and the keyboardist, Mike Leonard. With these four guys I predict lots of X-box tournaments and jam sessions and I can’t fucking wait.
“Zane, this shit is going to be awesome.” He nudges me with one of his beefy arms and grins. “Sold out tour mother fucker.”
I grin back. “Sold out tour mother fucker.”
“Did you even roll out of your own bed this morning?” He eyeballs me as we make our way over to our bus. “What did you do? Give her a nine-inch wake-up call and make it home in time just to shower and grab coffee?”
“Something like that,” I answer, refusing to kiss and tell my playmate’s secrets. “I packed last night so it was all good.”
“If you get as much tail as you did last summer, your dick is going to fall off,” he warns, his smile evil as he continues. “And I’ll be there to soothe all the sad “pick collectors.”
“That was just that group of rabid fan club girls in Utah and I know better than to leave my stash lying around where they can get their hands on it.” I lost an entire case of custom-made copper guitar picks when my hookup in Salt Lake City stole them and then sold them on E-bay. I will never make that mistake again. “Those picks aren’t fucking cheap.”
“Those Utah girls were freaky,” Mac smiles as he shakes his head. We played three nights there and it was everything you hear about concert tours.
“Well, apparently what they say about the quiet ones is true,” I say and stop when I bump into his large frame. “What the fuck, Mac?”
I turn my head to where he is slack-jawed staring and I understand exactly what the hell it is. Emory Cabell. Backup singer. Exquisite guitarist. Honey blonde with legs that go on for miles and breasts that would fit perfectly in my palms.
And Kit Landry’s new-found baby sister.
We both ogle as she bends over and tries to lift a heavy suitcase. Emory is wearing cutoff jean shorts, a little red t-shirt and flip-flops. Her legs are endless and the cutoffs are just short enough to give a hint of the sweet little curve of her ass.
“Oh my God,” Mac says, his voice strained with the tension I feel in my body.
“Fuckin-A.” I shift slightly to redistribute the half-hard boner in my jeans and barely bite back the laugh that is bubbling in my chest. God was not kind when he put Emory Cabell on my path. She’s a walking wet dream pulled right out my fantasy archive and she’s so off-limits that she might as well live on Alcatraz but my dick is ignoring the memo.
We watch for a few moments longer as she struggles with the multiple pieces of luggage she’s trying to get on the bus she will share with Kit and the other back-up singer, Sandra. I shove my own duffle at Mac, ignoring his grunt of pain as it plows into his abdomen.
“I should go help her,” I say.
“No, you shouldn’t.”
“Yeah, I think I should.”
“Just remember than helping her with her luggage does not involve either of you taking off your clothes.”
“And that is a fucking shame,” I say and walk towards her.

Hot Biker Guys?  HELLS YES!!!  Read on my peeps!

Excerpt:

“I’m not injured everywhere.” The deep rumble of his voice made her skin tingle.

“Seriously?” Dawn swallowed hard as her hands followed the shirt up his torso, her fingers brushing over heated skin and hard muscle. God, he was magnificent, all taut pecs and rippling abs. Even the bruises couldn’t mar the perfection of his body. “How can you be thinking of sex at a time like this?”

His voice dropped, husky and low. “’Cause you’re standin’ between my legs wearing a tiny pair of shorts that only cover the top of your ass cheeks, and a damn tight top that doesn’t hide what you’re thinking.” He leaned forward in the chair, so close she could feel his breath on her skin. “And nothing underneath.”

Dawn’s breath hitched and her blood heated, thundered through her veins. Until this moment, focused on Cade’s injuries, her attire had been totally irrelevant. “How do you know I have nothing underneath?”

Cade traced lazy circles up the sensitive skin of her inner thigh, pausing at edge of her cotton PJ shorts. Dawn stilled as her brain clouded with desire. It was always this way with Cade: A chemistry so potent she was surprised they didn’t combust.

“Let’s see.” He slid his finger inside her shorts and stroked along the sensitive crease at the top of her thigh, sending a zing of electricity straight to her core.

“Hmmm. Can’t tell. Spread for me, baby. Let me in.”

Her face flushed. God, the things he said did all the wrong things to the right parts of her body. “Cade . . . this isn’t the time. You’re hurt. Let me look after you.”

He grabbed her hips, pulling her so close she could feel his heat through her clothes. Dawn breathed in his scent of blood and grass, mixed with heady aroma of leather and manly musk, and a delicious shiver ran up her spine.

“You are taking care of me,” he said. “Man gets in a fight. Hurts all over. He wants to feel good. He wants something to make him forget the pain. And you—all soft and sexy and smellin’ like flowers—will do the trick.”

“I thought you came here for help.” Dawn made a token effort at resistance and raised an eyebrow. “I didn’t realize it was a booty call.”

“You got the nicest booty I ever seen.” Cade slid a hand down her hip, and then gave her ass a squeeze. Before she could move away, his finger was inside her shorts, stroking over the bare skin of her folds. She gasped as moisture flooded her sex, and her nipples tightened beneath her thin cotton tank. Had she really thought things would be different from every other time they’d been together?

“Naughty girl,” he whispered. “You go to bed without your panties and someone might take advantage.”

EXCERPT:

He didn’t say anything, just watched her for so long that the intensity would have terrified her if being the focus of his attention wasn’t thrilling in a different way. Finally, he sighed. “I don’t know what to do with you, Lili Fleming.”

Her heart lurched, and the words that spilled out were reckless—the most unguarded of her life. “What do you want to do with me?”

Again, the hesitation. “There are ways I could help you,” he admitted, rubbing his thumb over the bowl of his glass. “Ordinarily, I would have already offered. But somehow it seems complicated now.”

She watched his thumb make another slow sweep and couldn’t not imagine it smoothing over her skin. That was what he was talking about—he had to be. Touching her. Showing her the things her body wanted, even as her mind shrank away.

“That’s not why—” Her voice cracked, and she took a long sip of wine and wished it was whiskey. “I’m not asking you for that. I don’t know if I—if I could…” God, she couldn’t even say it, her tongue tangling around the mildest of euphemisms.

“I know you’re not asking.” He shrugged. “I guess that’s what makes it complicated.”

Because trades were simple. They never left you vulnerable. And he hadn’t really answered her question—he was so deft that she hadn’t noticed. “What do you want to do?” she repeated softly.

Jared held her riveted, so completely that she barely noticed when he moved. She couldn’t look away, even when he took the glass from her hand. Even when he laid his hands on her face, his fingers curled around her neck to hold her, and lowered his mouth to hers.

She’d imagined kissing. Mouths touching, lips brushing.

She’d imagined wrong, because Jared’s tongue was the first thing she felt, hot and shocking, as if he knew it would make her gasp. Because when she did, he went deeper, his tongue finding hers.

It was too much. Too fast, too intoxicating. Her entire body throbbed along with her racing pulse, and her knees felt unsteady. She clutched for the only steady thing she could find, grasping his upper arms to keep from melting through the floor.

Then his hands tightened, tilting her head back, urging her mouth open. His tongue swept over hers again, rough and rasping, and every tiny shiver of sensation built into an ache that settled between her legs. Not just an ache, a need, and she whimpered into his mouth.

Jared broke the kiss with a shudder and smoothed his thumb over her tingling lower lip. “See?” he whispered. “Complicated.”

She closed her eyes and tried to catch her breath. “Not sure that helped,” she said, an attempt to turn it into a joke. It had to be, or fear and longing would crash together and vaporize her. “I’m feeling all sorts of things now.”

“It doesn’t have to stop.” His hands trembled on her face. “But that’s your choice to make.”

An impossible choice—need or fear, pleasure or peace. And all of it shrouded in mystery, because she couldn’t reconcile the O’Kanes’ wild glee with her mother’s whispered warnings to lie still so it would be over faster.

“I don’t know.” She forced herself to look at him, to meet his patient, waiting eyes. “I don’t know anything. How can I make a choice when I don’t understand what you’re offering?”

“You’re right.” He smiled again and brushed her hair back from her forehead with a careful, gentle touch. “It’s not exactly fair, is it?”

She was still clinging to him. Slowly, shyly, she eased her grip until she was touching, instead. His arms were solid, muscle flexing as she rubbed her thumb against his sleeve and wondered if he felt the same spark of sensation. “When I was on the drugs, everything seemed so clear. I thought they were all pretending. I didn’t believe in pleasure.”

“And now?”

Now it would be like not believing in water while she was standing outside in the rain. This wasn’t some gentle mist, either. She was caught up in a storm, and she’d seen what heavy rain could do to the desert. The clay couldn’t absorb the water, and the riverbeds couldn’t contain it.

She wasn’t made for pleasure. Too much would sweep her away. “Now I’m scared.”

Cappy was going to hell.

The sight of Michelle’s perfect ass disappearing out the window was now permanently burned into his brain. He was such a bastard for avidly watching it wiggle as she forced her body through the tight opening.

Every nerve ending north of his toes still vibrated from touching her. Though he had sounded like a bumbling idiot earlier, he had meant it when he blurted out how amazing she looked; so healthy and whole. The antithesis of the bloody, broken woman damaged by the Osvaldo cartel in that shithole room six years ago.

This beautiful, vibrant, sexy woman had his blood surging and his fantasies on overload. Her body was built for a man like him. For deep, hard sex, be it up against a wall or bent over a chair . . . Goddammit.

Straight. To. Hell.

Remember the mission. He couldn’t think of her in any other terms than professional. He had to find out if she killed the Senator’s son, for Christ’s sake.

Not have her starring in his latest mental-porno-flick.

He pulled a disposable phone from his leg pocket and dropped it inside her overlarge bag. Once he zipped the thing closed, he called, “Heads up. Purse coming through.”

He gave it a little nudge over the sill, hearing it thud into her hands before he yanked the battery out of the back of her cell phone. Now she couldn’t be traced from the GPS in the device—which had been his plan if she hadn’t called him.

He dropped the pieces into his leg pocket for later disposal. Putting on his

sunglasses, he ensured his gun holster wouldn’t knock into the edges of the frame, and slid soundlessly through the small opening, then closed the window. Turning, he half expected to find her gone, but she stood just to the left, chewing on her lip with fear lacing her irises.

“This way,” he whispered, grabbing her hand and motioning toward a grungy building next door.

The electricity from the contact instantly had him hard. He grunted and urged her forward. He pulled her around the back corner of a convenience store and stopped, shifting his hips to relieve the pressure.

“Cutting it too close, Cappy,” Talon admonished softly.

Michelle jumped, squealed, then slapped a hand over her mouth.

Yeah. Talon had that effect on people. He was so damn good at blending into the background, he caught most by surprise.

Cappy seized Michelle’s hand to stop her from inching backward. “Relax.”

Her eyes were as large as her face and she didn’t seem to be able to look away from his teammate. A sudden shot of jealously spiked through his veins. Stow that shit. He had no time for that destructive emotion and it was wrong on so many levels.

“Where’s the car?” he barked, jolting them all. Christ.

Engines raced into the parking lot next door and instantly shut off. Car doors opened, then slammed shut.

Cappy didn’t need to see his teammate’s eyes to know they were both thinking about how they had just barely made it. Michelle trembled underneath his palm.

“Car’s on the other side of the dry cleaners, as commanded.” Talon pointed to a building that had seen better days adjacent to the convenience store.

Dear God, who is this guy? Michelle couldn’t stop staring at the wicked knife with the onyx blade still protruding from SCK’s fist.

She shivered.

A male voice yelled from the hotel’s parking lot, “You two cover the back. White, start peering in windows. I’ll talk to the desk clerk.”

“Our signal to move,” Jeremy whispered, jerking her arm as he pulled her forward.

She ran as fast as she could but knew she wasn’t even close to the speed both men wanted. Tough darts. She didn’t live in a gym like them.

Did she do the right thing, calling Jeremy? She trailed behind the two men, still rattled by his blatant connection to the FBI’s investigation. He saved you before. Yeah, he did. Was he doing that now?

EXCERPT:

Without thinking, I reach a hand behind me and brush the side of his face where Jake took his cheap shot. My fingers skim the morning stubble on his jaw. His lungs constrict under me, and I know I shouldn’t have done it. But he leans in to my touch, and I’m the one concealing a gasp.

“How does it feel?” I ask, guilt dripping off my words.

“I’m fine,” he says, his voice a throaty whisper.

I justify my hand lingering on his face with the thought that I owe him. He’s already been hurt because of me, twice in one night, and still he stayed. The longing hangs between us. If he wants what little I’m able to give, I can honor that request. But it’s the warmth of his skin on mine, the need to fill all of the empty spaces with his touch. Why shouldn’t I deserve this too? Maybe a tiny pocket of happiness is better than none at all.

My hand slides to the corner of his mouth, my fingertips resting on his lips.

“Jess.”

His voice is a whisper now, one that makes my body scream. I will follow his lead. I will give him what he wants, what we both need. Maybe we can seal some of the cracks for each other. Maybe the next time we break, there will be fewer pieces to pick up.

It’s almost imperceptible, the brush of his lips against my fingers. We teeter on the edge, and if I ignore it, if I don’t acknowledge the kiss, I will pull us back from the brink. The boundaries will remain.

I pull my hand away and turn so I kneel beside him. His dark eyes gaze at me with more intensity than I’ve ever seen. We both want this. No, we need this.

My fingers find their way back to his mouth, skimming his bottom lip. Adam’s eyes close, and my name is a soft moan escaping with his breath.

“Jess.”

Every part of me pulses with the nearness of him, and my lips join my fingers in quiet, longing exploration of his mouth. There is no kiss yet, only lips searching lips before we each let go of the last of our restraint.

He opens his eyes and looks at me through dark lashes. His hand reaches for mine, pulling it gently from his mouth.

“Are you sure?”

He breathes the words into my mouth, and I don’t allow myself time for rational thought.

“Yes,” I breathe back. “Yes.”

Both of his hands cradle my face, his fingers tucking strands of hair behind my ears, thumbs brushing my lashes, the whole time my lips still resting light upon his.

The only thing I hear before we cross the barrier is my own shallow inhalation, and then tentative exploration gives way to the pressure of his mouth on mine.

His kiss is halfway between tender and hungry. I straighten on my knees and run my fingers through his hair. He releases a shaky breath, and my back arches, pushing my chest against his.

My right knee slides over his outstretched leg so I’m straddling him. And this is it, the line crossed. I expect the fear and the logic that has gripped me for so long to pull me back. But instead, as my lips crush against his, everything else melts away. I am suspended in this moment for as long as time will let me.

Adam’s teeth graze my bottom lip, and I gasp with pleasure. His tongue traces the same path, and I open my mouth, inviting him in. He tastes like cinnamon, and I smile against him realizing he’s used my mouthwash.

Our tongues tangle and untangle, sweeping across teeth and lips. I’ve had first kisses before, but not like this. Even with Bryan, the boy I knew I’d fall in love with, there was never this kind of heat, this undeniable need.

Bryan. Even when I’m awake, he’s here, reminding me how stupid I am to hope, to want more than I can give. The realization is a wake-up call, and I pull away from him, panting.

I knew I wanted him. I knew we both needed this moment. But I can’t need him. Not when I know he can’t stay.

That was never an option. And my selfish longing isn’t worth what all of this will end up doing to him.

Neither of us says a word.

Adam’s smile is broad and beautiful until his eyes lock on mine. It fades as recognition blooms. He can see it on my face, the reconstruction of my walls, and I wonder if our small moment was time enough to put any of the broken pieces back together, or if all we did was make a new crack.
